What is Montessori? PDF Print E-mail
Montessori is a time-tested, brain based, developmental and educational method that allows children to make creative yet challenging choices in how they discover the people, places and knowledge of the world.  It emphasizes hands on learning, advanced academics, self expression, and collaborative play in a beautifully crafted classroom of respect, peace, and joy.  Through this environment children learn life attributes of self-motivation, discipline, integrity, and perseverance.  Children who have completed Montessori education become competent leaders, entrepreneurs, and have thrived in their career paths.

Maria Montessori founded AMI in 1929 so that her method would be protected in its entirety.   AMI certified teachers are expected to hold up high standards. These standards are protected by AMI.

The AMI school recognition program was initiated in the United States for the benefit of parents by providing a measure of whether schools are following Dr. Montessori's principles and practices in their original integrity and completeness. A set of pedagogical standards was developed by AMI for this purpose. It us upon these standards that AMI recognition is granted annually.
